The Homeless Services Training Resource System funded by the New York State Office of
Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) and housed at the Silberman School of Social
Work at Hunter College, provides free year-round training courses on a variety of topics for
homeless shelter staff and other homelessness service providers throughout New York State. Most
training courses are currently conducted virtually and instructor-led using the Webex
platform. Select In-person trainings will also be offered regionally on a rotating basis.
- These virtual trainings are held on half-days from 10am–12pm or 12:30pm, 1pm-3pm or 3:30pm and on full days from 10am-3pm (4 hour Day with 1 hour lunch break).
- Training classes are instructor-led, interactive webinars for staff to increase their professional knowledge and enhance their skillset to foster a sense of empathy and compassion for individuals/families living with housing insecurity.
All training courses are open to homeless shelter staff and housing workers at all levels and roles
including direct service, front-line workers, supervisory and management staff.
